Cycletec Spring Festival becomes a community event

The 14th annual Cycletec Spring Festival is undergoing big changes, as it moves towards becoming a community event. What started out as cycling fun ride 14 years ago, has now changed to a multisport festival held on the first September weekend very year.

Cycletec, who have been based in Klein Windhoek for the past 8 years, are committed to being part of the larger Windhoek community, and see their event as a strong platform to bring people from all walks of life together through sport and being outdoors. With this in mind, this year’s event will once again start and finish at the Black Pearl( Eagles Beer Garden) below the Avis Dam wall. Participants will be spoilt for choice, with a trail run, off road duathlon and mountain bike event to choose from. Both the mountain bike ride and trail run will offer two distances, so that even first timers will get to experience the unique flavour of this event.

This year, all events will start between 08:00 and 08:15. Although this means participants will only be able to choose one event, it will ensure that everyone has crossed the finish line by 11:30. In the past, the mountain bikers have had to cope with unusually hot temperatures after lunch, and many are too tired to attend prize giving afterwards. Starting all events early means that finishers and spectators alike will be able to enjoy the other actives at the venue. These include the YAMFIT challenge, volleyball, kids cycling route, jumping castle, sports massage and more. In addition, Octupus Tents will be providing much needed shade, where everyone can enjoy the braaivleis and cold drinks that will be for sale.
